Today we spotlight artist Jekasole, let’s take a deeper look into her journey.

Artist name: Jekasole

Walk us through your background- Tell us more about you and the music that you create Jekasole is a Christian Hip-hop artist from Miami, FL. Jeka first started writing poetry at the age of 9 and then transitioned over to music at the age of 12. She was always one that played by her own rules, offering her listeners a diverse musical palette that unabashedly spans alternative, hip hop, pop . Her empowering messages and passionate delivery are consistently relatable as they tackle everyday struggles, faith and triumph. “I always want people to be able to feel encouraged that they are not the only ones that may be dealing with the internal dialogue about life struggles,” she says. “I want people to feel like my story is their story. An that hope isn’t dead and has a name and that’s Jesus.

What got you started in music? Whats your inspiration? Initially i was always around musicians as a kid. However, the one who inspired me to start music was my older cousin Kevyn. I always thought it was so cool and i wanted to learn how to record , pre mix and play with sounds/flows. Who inspired me to pursue Christian Hip-hop seriously was Reach Records very own Lecare, Trip Lee & KB. Ultimately i knew i wanted to make music but i was in a limbo of actually pursuing to stay on the CHH artist path because it was different from anything i was used too. I felt it in my heart this was the path God wanted me on and the same way that KB shared how listening to a Christian hip hop mixtape saved his life and he is the man of God he is today. I wanted to keep pursuing my CHH artist path because i know that my story could help someone else down the road.

What are some of the obstacles you've faced as a female Christian artist or as a female artist in general? Some of the obstacles i face is being taken seriously as an artist. The CHH world isn’t different from the secular music world it’s a very male dominated genre. An most times i faced was the lack of support from family or friends just because of my genre. However I’ve been able to see God’s hand move where i can perform for a crowd of people who don’t know me or claim to be a believer of God support me and my music. Whether that’s having them sing along with me , stream my music or repost my music on their social media.

What are some predictions for yourself and the music industry over the next 5 years? I can truly say that I hope to have grown my fan base. Perfect my sound and make big name connections with other CHH artist. As well as being able to have gone on my first official debut tour.

If it's one thing you could change about the current state of music, what would it be? It would be the amount of negativity that a lot of these artist promote. Whether it’s Gang violence, substance & alcohol abuse.
