Artist CoCo Shantelle recently released her track Lose Faith and If you’re looking for inspiration, THIS is the track for you. At first seeing the image and looking at the title, I thought she was a gospel artist but this track is definitely versatile. It provides relate-ability for the gospel and r&b lovers. The intent is very clear with her single and it’s to encourage. Recently I got a chance to ask CoCo Shantelle some questions, about her career, past , present and future.

Walk us through your background- Tell us more about you and your music
I’ve been singing since about the age of five. I remember, because When we lived down south, I was only allowed to watch TV in the basement, & I used to watch music videos on MTV. I knew every single song (now that I’m older, I realized I had no business singing them lol.) Around that same time, an adult told me I couldn’t sing. Being young at that age. I kinda believed it! From that point on, I was shy and somewhat embarrassed when people asked me to sing. So I wasn’t involved in many singing activities while in grade/middle school. However, once I got to high school I was in the concert choir, performing arts, talent shows, and other musical functions. I’ve had singing lessons, and also concert choir in my early college years. I’ve performed in numerous showcases, and open mics. I’ve done background vocals for artists whether on stage or in the studio. I’m currently featured on a couple EP‘s/albums with local/indie artists. Also, I’m a vocalist in band : ‘Ralph Real and the Family Jam’. And I’ve always wanted to be apart of a band. I would describe my current sound as an R&B/Soul/Pop Vibe. You’ll hear anything from inspirational to songs about relationships. But I’m looking to do some Caribbean/Afro music in the future to get the people moving. I love those sounds and the moods it puts you in.
What inspires you?
There are a few things that inspire me. My family inspires me to be better to create my own legacy. The youth inspires me. I say this, because I remember not being able to, or shall I say feeling comfortable with being myself. There are many youth coming out of their shells, being comfortable with their talents. and when I look at myself, I started off later in age with confidence. Just the people in general, because when you see the impact and positivity you bring to people from your music, you wanna continue to be inspired to do such things. Music has the capability to create change, and I want to be able to help others.
What are some of the obstacles you've faced and how has it made you better?
I have faced many obstacles especially within the past five years that many ppl don’t know about; to include financially, with school, and my loved ones. In college, I THOUGHT the challenges I was facing were becoming too hard to deal with, and I almost quit, but I didn’t, and I graduated. I’ve had obstacles with friends/family, and I’ve had to deal with the fact that everyone is NOT for you. Also, early in my music career, I’ve dealt with some unprofessional individuals, of which I’m sure there will be plenty more to come. These obstacles have made me better. I’ve experienced many things in life that I was once unsure how I was going to manage, but I got through it by not losing faith in myself and now I’m here today to tell my story. I’m a lot stronger, I am wiser, I am more confident in myself and my music at this point, but I’m not done learning. Life continues.
What is your 5 year plan for your music and for yourself?
Part of my five year plan for my music and myself is to just grow and learn. Always being a student, and to be a sponge and absorb the good things and filter out the bad or negative. I am planning on establishing an amazing brand. I don’t necessarily want to be “famous” I just want to impact lives through music whether it be mine or writing for others. And ultimately being my own boss. I’m not 100% of what the future will bring, actually none of us do, but if I stay on track, and keep the Faith, I believe things will fall in place
What do you want people to takeaway from your music?
I want people to connect with me through my music; Feel the energy and enjoy my voice. I make music that is relatable and definitely a vibe! I have many different moods, so that’s why you may hear a variety of songs and not just your typical R&B song. It’s like my fellow Cancer ♋️ Jessie Woo says “Moods of a Cancer”, but in a good way lol. I believe my current single “Lose Faith” is a timeless piece. I wrote it to express some of the obstacles I’ve faced, and I how I overcame them, by fighting and not losing faith within myself. It doesn’t matter if you are religious or spiritually connected, there has been a time when you’ve second-guessed yourself, and asked if what you were doing is going to work out. It’s so easy for us to quit and lose our faith, opposed to sticking it out, and grinding it out to the finish line. I’ve received such amazing feedback from the release of “Lose Faith” due to others relating to it. Which really, if I can be honest, I was not expecting all of the love I’ve been getting. I’m so thankful and blessed to have impacted someone’s life in a positive way.
Where can people find your music?
I’m so happy you asked. It’s easily accessible for everyone. I’ve had people say to me “I don’t have an iPhone.” No worries, because you can find my music on a variety of music platforms to include: Apple Music, iTunes, Tidal, Spotify, SoundCloud, YouTube, Amazon, MusicNapster, Deezer and it is now appearing on Pandora as well.
