Walk us through your background- Tell us more about you and what you do
I'm just a regular kid from South Florida. I grew up singing in the church and eventually sharpened my skills with the Florida Singing Sons Boychoir. Outside of singing I am a creative that has a photography and videography company, D.Steele Visuals. I have and run a clothing brand with my cousin Drew and close friend Sny, called Oddly Fresh Clothing (@OddlyFresh). I recently graduated from FAU with a degree in Multimedia Studies and Minor in Business Admin. Now aside from my photography and videography work, and my music, I work as a Marketing Director for an audit firm.
What inspires you?
What inspires me and my music is everyday life! Relationships, heartbreak, things that make me happy. I pull from all those areas of life. Whether it is something that has happened to me before, something currently happening in my life or something that I never want to happen to me, I use all of this to draw from when creating music.
What are some of the obstacles you've faced and how has it made you better?
The obstacle that I have faced that has been big to me is writers block. It takes me a while to get through songs because I use real life experience in my music. I personally feel like it's made me better though by allowing my music to be much more genuine and real.
What do you think makes your music different from other artist?
I think what makes my music different from others would have to be my sound. The artists that influence me and my sound in music are not Chris Brown, Drake, or Trey Songz , who are all dope artists. I get my influence from current artists like Mali Music, Jhene Aiko, and The Hamiltones. They are all really into raw vocal harmonies and matching tones with each other to bring clean/ crisp sounds and that what I try to bring into my music.
It's important to give yourself credit; What do you feel is/are your biggest accomplishment(s) to date?
Some of my major accomplishments would have to be:
- Starting with the Florida Singing Sons Boychoir, learning the ins and outs of music and touring the world with them from 2003-2013
- Performing at Blazers at FAU in both Feb. 2019 and Feb. 2020.
- Releasing by first ever single "Betrayal" in August of 2019.
- Releasing the first leading single, "Conversations", of my upcoming EP.
What are some things that you still want to accomplish?
I still want to release a full EP and another album. I also want to perform in front of a crowd one day where they just know the words to my song(s) word for word. For whatever reason, if its the words resonating with how the person is feeling or if its just because they like how the song flows, I imagine for an artist that is such an awesome feeling and that is one feeling I want to experience.
What new music do you have coming up? I definitely have new music on the way. I have my second leading single for my upcoming EP coming out in the next couple of weeks. After I drop that, I will be going back in the lab to complete my EP.
What do you want people to takeaway from your music?
What I want people to take away from my music is, that you can go through similar life experiences as any other person. Life is a funny thing but some way some how, we go through similar things. I want my music to be relatable to people.
Finally, If you had a message to give to any artist coming behind you, what would it be?
Advice that I would give to people coming behind me is, make music that you like and have fun making. Don't follow the trends and try to be like anyone else. There is an audience out there for you so just be authentic.
