Walk us through your background- Tell us more about you and your music:

Well ever since I can remember, my life has always been fueled by a huge passion, dream, or charisma of some sort. Whether this dream would be the ambition of creating a panacea, inventing a world changing technology, or becoming the President of the United States, these dreams and aspirations that I held drove me to being a dedicated, inspired and focused individual. Even more importantly however, was my having been surrounded by a huge amount of extraordinary people all my life. People who loved, supported, and empowered me to do the things that I wouldn’t have dared to do, people who made it their business to make sure that I was reaching for the stars, and never settling for less. Throughout my being however, my ideologies, perspectives and visions were challenged, destroyed and transformed through the turmoil and confusion that I bore within myself, but never has my core values or principles been crippled by life, or its ‘intricacies’. In regards to Music, I can honestly say that it has always been a sun within my life, however when I ‘found’ music (in the most profound sense of that word), it became to me something even more. 2013, April 27th, is the date that I wrote my first serious rap with the conscious intentions of becoming a professional Rap Artist. I was 15 years old at the time, and I was a month away from turning 16. At the time I was going through a lot spiritually, mentally and physically, and the solitude of the basement that I lived in actually became more so a place of solace and connectedness for me. I found myself getting more and more immersed into this thing known as hip hop culture as the days went by. Consuming as many interviews, freestyles and songs from the people that I admired and the very people who inspired me to even pick up a pen and find a voice of my own. Those people would include rappers like 2pac, Kendrick Lamar and collectives like Pro Era. While I was spending a lot of time on my craft and just being completely hypnotized and engulfed within hip hop music, I eventually found myself rapping with people in my school that also inspired me, and I eventually joined a rap group that was known as Abstract Seleksion. I lived in Maryland at the time, and the group itself I ended up leaving because after my second year of high school out there I moved back to my hometown of Brooklyn, New York. Obviously, I continued rapping and improving my craft until I felt like it was time to showcase my talents to the world and so that’s where I’m at today.

Whats your inspiration?

Life. Every aspect of life and existence in every form is a piece of inspiration for my creativity, whether that process happens consciously, or subconsciously. Now I know that when it comes to rap music there is a perception that you’ve got to rap about ‘your’ life, and Of course most of the contents of my work are going to derive from the real moments and people that I’ve been able to personally experience. My imagination as an Artist however, is what truly gives me the ability to reach beyond just my own circumference of reality and understanding to create a picture that’s bigger than just me, it is this feat that helps me to draw inspiration for my music and make it free from either space or time. By that, I really just mean that being able to take from other people’s lives (whether I consume their stories through conversation, music, film or just as a 3rd person spectator looking from the outside in), is what makes for a great narrator. Because being a narrator to me is so much more than having the great ‘voice’ or being able to use the fanciest words, but it is more so about being a humble listener and an avid watcher. This is the most important part of me gathering the inspiration to create music that I can love and present to the World.

What are some of the obstacles you've faced as an artist?

Honestly speaking, EVERY ARTIST STRUGGLES WITH MONEY! The economic reality of scarcity is a huge set back and constriction in regards to how I can create content, release content and most significantly, at what pace I can do so. I’ve been super blessed to have parents that invest in my studio time, invest in my facebook or instagram promotions, and just help me out whenever and however they can but as a man, and as an independent individual in general, your always gonna have to learn how to provide and fend for yourself at the end of the day. This is a dilemma that I’m still working around, but I do know that it’s not a mountain that can’t be climbed. We’ve seen so many people before us do it, from the Jay Z’s to the Walt Disney’s, so we know that nothing is impossible, the question is always just how to maneuver within the current landscape of the career field that you are trying to pursue. What’s been helping me recently has been my hustle in networking with the dope creatives around me, spending time enhancing my mastery in skill sets that will greatly benefit me in regards to production cost, and even finding people that will invest in me. This has all been super helpful to me, and will continue to benefit me l in the long term.

What are some predictions for yourself and the music industry over the next 5 years?

Well we know that in the past 2 decades alone, the music industry has changed immensely. We also know that in only the past few years, there have been huge paradigm shifts in regards to the models that still work and the models that are now obsolete. Technology, automation and information has been changing the framework of almost every career and job in America, some so much to the point of complete extinction (and if they have not been completely wiped out now). Although the music industry has proved to the World that it could survive through this digital revolution, that does not mean that it has done so unscathed. It has gotten a lot harder to make money in Music now compared to how it once was, but as we can see, this perceived threat to musicians and record labels everywhere, has also created a new wave of Entrepreneurship amongst us everywhere. The waves and trends of ownership, and independency has been surging throughout the Artist Community! We can see the proof of this by realizing the fact that even more Artist choosing to go independent are actually succeeding. From the Chance the rappers, to Artist like Russ, or even the late Nipsey Hussle. In the next 5 years I believe that we will only see more success stories, and this will definitely lead to a huge dent in traditional record labels around the World. I myself intend to follow in these Artist footsteps when it comes to ownership and independency as an Artist. In the next 5 years I’ll be 26 years old, and I see myself on top of the World, or well on my way there at least. Even thinking of it now is honestly super exciting and humbling, but with the Faith and support system that I have, I know that there’s really nothing that I can’t do or accomplish. So the world is mine >:D.

What can people look forward to from your music?

When it comes to my music, I feel like people shouldn’t look for anything in particular. The only thing that I can guarantee in my music for the listener to be able to look forward to is that a piece of my soul will be in it, and a piece of God will be in it as well. When I write my rhymes, the words and emotions comes from a higher place. For the most part I don’t strategize, and I don’t over analyze, I just feel and express. That to me, is one of the highest and purest forms of not only releasing, but also experiencing energy, and if you’ve really seen me perform live before you would definitely know that. If you’ve listened to any of the songs that I have out on platforms now, just know that you still don’t know what kind of rapper or artist that Freddie Julee is because I still have so much more of me to offer. I honestly don’t mean to come across as self centered, cocky or arrogant in any way but this is the most honest and humble way that I can answer this question. So when it comes to what you would expect or look forward to from Freddie Julee, I would say to expect truth, to expect love, and to expect good music. No matter however many bpm the song may have, or whatever sub genre it may come packaged in, the music will be free and honest. Yin and Yang and My Love are two songs that I have out now on streaming platforms that are a perfect examples of two different extremes of music, yet at the same time, two very honest and whole hearted songs that can stand the test of time.
