Just John (South Florida Artist)

Just John is a poet and artist from South Florida. I had the pleasure of meeting this guy while attending college here and his presence is impeccable. I've always admired his ability to command a room and to be able to control a crowd with his words, it's encapsulating. Also, his flow seems very seamless and he's a great story teller.

This artist is definitely a talent to watch.

Walk us through your background- Tell us more about you and your music

My paps used to DJ around Dade and Broward county FL, my bro Jah is the go to engineer in all of South Florida, my other bro in band and handling instruments music runs in our bloodstream. I just know how to artistically fit words in the seams to make it all make sense.

It all started with my love for poetry and writing. I was never able to express myself or my feelings the right way so I would write it down on paper. It used to help my vulnerability and was very therapeutic.

Flash forward, music just came easy to me afterwards.

My main priority however is always the words.

What inspires you?

I gained inspiration from listening to some of the greatest lyricist of all time such as Tupac, Biggie, 3000, to modern day greats like Cole, Kendrick, Lupe and Wale.

I’ve always had a passion for words and their meanings.

What are some of the obstacles you've faced and how has it made you better?

Man, we’ve jumped through hoops with this music ish, literally. From producing content for other artists and not getting the credit for any of the work, to engineers running off with files and samples for projects, being your own manager can sometimes become the biggest struggle. It’s tough wearing multiple hats but I always say, the more you can do the better. You should never only be good at ONE thing, because then you become replaceable.

What do you think makes your music different from other artist?

I think I work exceptionally well in many things, not quite yet mastering it all. What sets me apart is my story, what I have to tell the world and how I choose to do so, whether that be through music and pain or acting and expressing raw emotions or even a book. You never know what you’re gonna get from “Just John”.

What new music do you have coming up?

You can stream my latest single “FiJi” on all streaming platforms as well as the official music video on YouTube.

That’s the trailer to the short visual project I’m conducting entitled “. . . A LOVE STORY”

There’s no release date yet but expect it this year 2020 for sure, somewhere around my favorite season of the year.

Also, I will be having some of my featured artists such as Jah, K-Cee L., Desire, MARC Made etc drop some hints going forward on when the release will be.

What do you want people to takeaway from your music?

I believe art is abstract and can be interpreted in multiple different facets. My job is to display my body of work and let you be the judge, see what it is you take away from it.

That being said, there is definitely intentional-ism in all of my work. I like to raise conversations on tough topics. I enjoy playing the devil’s advocate.

Also, I really just like having fun, so all of my music is fun to listen to.

I want if you close your eyes and listen to my project for you to just get lost in its endless possibilities of meaning.
