I've been following this artist music for about 2-3 years, ever since he dropped his single Nobody. I came across his song while skipping through sound cloud one day and was immediately captivated. After that day I would check in periodically to see what new music he released and just to keep up with his elevation. This artist is definitely a sleeper and a true artist in every sense of the word. Recently he released his project Chrysalis and although he has a sound of his own, he was also able to take things from other artist; like adlibs and use of auto-tune from Travis Scott or flow and raps from the likes of Lil Uzi Vert and Drake, Wasionkey is very diverse and is building a strong fan base to support that.
I was so excited to get a chance to tap in with this artist and ask him some questions, as I've been watching his development from a distance and love his music. To learn more about him tap in below:
Walk us through your background- Tell us more about you and your music
I’ve been doing music since around age 16. When I was younger I really wanted to be a singer like Usher but ended up falling in love with Rap and Hip Hop when I first started. Now I juggle around doing both and even though I’m probably a better rapper than singer, R&B is my first love.
What inspires you?
A lot of things inspire me. When it comes to rapping I’m very competitive, so when I hear someone who is nice, it makes me want to knock them down. As far as R&B I love making music that makes me FEEL. I’m inspired a lot by my real world experiences and that’s usually where I pull from. And I like anything sad.
What are some of the obstacles you've faced and how has it made you better?
I think not being a strong vocalist has forced me to focus on the words. I am all about my lyrics.
What is your 5 year plan for your music and for yourself?
Letting go and letting God.
What do you want people to takeaway from your music?
I want people to hear me and say “oh man that’s exactly how i feel”. I like when people tell me they can relate to my music.
Where can people find your music?
I’m on all major streaming platforms. Just search “WasionKey” (Was i On Key)
